Description
The 20ft expandable folding house is a factory-finished prefabricated home that travels as a compact container and opens on site into a full-size room. Two side wings are hinged to the central body on galvanised hinges and swing outward, so about 37 m2 of usable floor space appears without a single brick being laid. Everything inside - insulation, wiring, lighting, sockets, windows, door and floor finish - is installed in the factory and tested before shipping, which means the unit arrives as a complete room rather than a building kit.
This version is finished with grey culture stone, a lightweight manufactured stone veneer applied over the panel surface. It gives the unit the look and texture of a masonry building while keeping the weight and transport advantage of a container house, and the rough surface hides marks and weathering extremely well. It is the usual choice for permanent installations, reception buildings, estate entrances and upmarket holiday units where the buyer wants the house to read as a solid, long-term structure rather than temporary accommodation.
Under the cladding is a galvanised steel frame engineered as a single load-bearing box. The beams and columns are sized so that the wings stay true after hundreds of folding cycles, and heavy galvanised hinges link wing to body. A powder-coated, corrosion-resistant finish is applied to the whole frame, which is what allows the unit to be stored outdoors between projects.
The panels are 950-type EPS colour steel sandwich panels - 50 mm for the roof, the inner ceiling and the internal partitions, 65 mm for the external walls and the wing roofs - with 0.3 mm steel facings. The floor is 18 mm glass magnesium board over both the main frame and the folding wings, chosen because it is dimensionally stable, fire safe and unaffected by ground moisture.
Inside, the electrical system is complete: 220 V 50 Hz distribution, 300 mm flat panel lights and a large ceiling light, international three-pin and five-pin sockets, and double and single switches. Cable sections are 6 mm2 incoming, 4 mm2 for air conditioning, 2.5 mm2 for sockets and 1.5 mm2 for lighting, and the socket and switch standards can be built to the certification of the destination country.
